Eastern Route

Baltra — San Cristóbal — Española — Floreana — Santiago

This route moves through the older, eastern and southern half of the archipelago — volcanic islands weathered by time and rich in human history. Española is the signature site: the almost-exclusive breeding ground of the waved albatross, and one of the richest wildlife concentrations in the islands. Along the way: a centuries-old postal tradition on Floreana, the seabird colonies of Genovesa, and Kicker Rock rising from the sea off San Cristóbal.

Route Features

  • Española — the waved albatross's near-exclusive breeding site, in season.

  • The 18th-century Post Office Bay barrel tradition on Floreana.

  • Land iguanas and sea lions on South Plaza.

  • Frigatebirds and blue-footed boobies nesting along the trails of North Seymour.

  • Genovesa's Darwin Bay and Prince Philip's Steps, home to vast seabird colonies.

  • León Dormido (Kicker Rock), on the first afternoon.
