Western Route

San Cristóbal — Santa Cruz — Santiago — Isabela — Fernandina

This route traces the archipelago's western edge — its youngest, rawest terrain. On Isabela and Fernandina, black lava fields and volcanic coastlines are still taking shape, and marine iguanas gather by the hundreds. It's also home to the flightless cormorant, a seabird found only on these two islands .

Route Features

  • The archipelago's youngest volcanic landscapes, on Fernandina and Isabela.

  • The flightless cormorant, found only on Fernandina and Isabela.

  • Tagus Cove, where 19th-century sailors carved their ships' names into the cliffs.

  • Rábida's red-sand beach and the tide pools of Puerto Egas.

  • Zodiac rides through the mangroves of Elizabeth Bay.

  • Giant tortoises in their highland habitat at El Chato Reserve.
