A New Way Of Seeing The World

In the 1980s, Anakata's founding family saw something in Galápagos that most operators still haven't learned to see: that the archipelago is not a destination to be consumed, but an ecosystem to be respected. That instinct predates any company — it is where the family's relationship with these islands actually begins. Respecting a place, they understood, was not the same as keeping it apart from the world; it meant building the means for others to reach it with the same care the family already held for it — a fleet raised from nothing to carry them by sea, passage opened by air, ground made ready by land. That intertwinement was never incidental. It was the beginning of everything that came after.

The second generation took that fleet and kept building. What they inherited wasn't finished, A new fleet was built, hull by hull, lighter and quieter, to respect and protect the sea they would navigate on. Sustainability wasn't a message for this generation; it was the standard the work was held to.

The sun and the wind carried some of the weight the engines once carried alone, and what a voyage earned went back into a child's education, a researcher's fieldwork, a reef spared from a net that should never have been cast. So they built the business into one of the most respected names in intimate Galápagos expedition travel and deepened its conservation commitments including a direct partnership with the Charles Darwin Foundation.

Anakata is not a new family entering Galápagos. It is the third generation of the same family, and once again the fleet is being built from scratch — the way the first one was. Bespoke vessels, new capital, a broader geographic ambition: the details are new, the instinct underneath them isn't. Same philosophy, same water, carried now to the farthest corners of the planet.
